The Nevis Linux Cluster may seem a bit confusing at first.  It's actually [[list of machines][several smaller clusters]] linked together.  Each working group at Nevis has its own set of clients and servers; they are linked and managed by the administrative servers.

Here's the [[list of machines]] on the Linux cluster.

The [[http://www.nevis.columbia.edu/linux/authentication.html][authentication service]] determines who is allowed to log on to which Linux machine.

The [[applications server]] gives you access to common [[technical][applications]] like ROOT, CERNLIB, and GEANT. You will need to use [[environment modules]] to set up these packages.

The disks on the Linux cluster are linked via [[automount]]. This means you don't need an account on a machine in order to access its files.
