Nevis particle-physics secure network warnings

There's a couple of things to know before starting to use our web proxy or VPN.

The Nevis secure networks provide security and network access. They do not provide anonymity or privacy.

The general idea behind a secure network is that all your network access appears to come from a different IP address. In the case of a commercial secure-network service, that IP address will be in some distant or protect location; e.g., Vietnam.

  That is not true for the Nevis secure networks. Anyone who looks at the apparent IP address of your connection will easily be able to check that it comes from Nevis. If a legal agency makes contact with us, we can check the log to determine who was using our network and what they were accessing.

Therefore, assume that your secure-network activity is encrypted, but traceable.

Your connection to Nevis is encrypted. The traffic from Nevis to other sites may not be.

Secure networks "transfer" the origin point of your personal computer's network to within Nevis. That has nothing to do with the encryption of the network traffic from Nevis to the rest of the world. If you visit a web site whose address begins with http instead of https, then your network traffic between Nevis and that web site might be inspected by a hacker.

  Using a secure network is still a good idea. For example, if you're using the Nevis secure network from your laptop in an airport, any hackers on the same wireless network won't see any clear-text traffic from your laptop to the outside world. They'll just see the encrypted traffic between your laptop and Nevis.

You must have an active Nevis particle-physics login account to use the secure network connection.

If your login account expires, your ability to use the Nevis secure networks expires as well.
